A red blend earns its keep by being greater than any one grape in it, and Gold Rush Red is put together with exactly that in mind. 1000 Stories blends in small batches, then rests the wine in bourbon barrels retired from Kentucky distilleries — oak that has already given up its whiskey but still holds plenty of char and sweet spice. The effect is warmth you can taste.
Look for stewed dark fruit, cocoa powder and black pepper, with vanilla and toasted caramel arriving underneath. The body is full, the tannins relaxed, and the finish runs warm and long. A natural fit for pulled pork, meatballs, pizza night or a plate of aged cheeses.
