The 2017 release of the wine that made this label. 1000 Stories works Zinfandel the way a distiller works whiskey: small batches, blended by taste, then rested in bourbon barrels that arrive still carrying char and residual sweetness from their first life in Kentucky. Time in bottle has knit the oak and the fruit closer together than they were on release.
Expect brambly blackberry and dried fig alongside vanilla, clove and a smoky, almost savory oak note. The tannins have settled, the warmth reads as depth rather than heat, and the finish runs long. Open it for slow-cooked ribs, venison, mushroom stew or a wedge of stilton.
