Named for the year Kentucky became a state, 1792 Small Batch comes out of the Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown — a working plant with more rickhouses than most towns have buildings. The mash bill leans high on rye, and that single decision shapes everything: this is a bourbon with backbone, bottled at a proof that keeps the flavor from thinning out. It has quietly become a bartender staple.
Rich caramel and vanilla arrive first, then cinnamon, black pepper and a dry, spicy oak finish. It holds up neat, opens nicely with a few drops of water, and makes an Old Fashioned or Manhattan that needs no rescuing. A serious pour at an unserious price.
