The Uprising is 19 Crimes at its boldest: an Australian red blend aged in rum barrels and named for the 1808 mutiny that put the colony’s rum trade at the center of a rebellion. Few wines in this bracket carry a signature this distinctive, and that barrel character is what buyers come back for.
On the palate it is dense and sweetly spiced — blackberry, plum and raisin lifted by vanilla, toffee and a warm oak finish. Give it a big glass and pair it with slow-cooked beef, sticky ribs or dark chocolate. A red for people who find most reds too restrained.
