Zinfandel is the great American red for people who like their wines generous — ripe, brambly and warming, with a sweetness of fruit that never quite tips into sugar. Lot 180 is the 90+ Cellars version, sourced as finished wine and bottled under a lot number rather than a label anyone would recognize.
The 2019 shows jammy blackberry and raspberry with black pepper, cocoa and a warm, spicy finish. It is made for smoke and char: pulled pork, barbecue ribs, burgers off the grill, or a hard cheese with some age on it. Serve it just below room temperature and give it a moment in the glass.
