Montepulciano is Italy’s quietly indispensable red grape — deeply colored, soft-tannined and priced for the table rather than the cellar. Lot 188 brings it into the 90+ Cellars range, where wine from an established Italian producer arrives under a lot number instead of a name.
The 2019 pours dark and welcoming: black cherry and plum, a savory herbal edge, gentle tannins and a smooth, dry finish. It is a natural with tomato-based pasta, pizza, meatballs, grilled sausage and aged pecorino. Serve it at cool room temperature and pour freely — this is a bottle designed to disappear over dinner.
