Aging wine in whiskey barrels is a modern idea with old logic behind it, and Apothic committed to it fully with Inferno. The red blend spends time in barrels that previously held whiskey, picking up character that no amount of new oak could deliver on its own.
The result is smoky and dense — dark fruit, maple, brown sugar and a warm spice that lingers well past the swallow. Serve it with smoked brisket, ribs off the grill, or a burger with plenty of char. It also meets dark chocolate better than most reds at this price.
