Product Description
Bodegas Ateca works with gnarled old Garnacha vines in Calatayud, a high, rocky corner of Aragon where the plants have survived on slate and very little water for the better part of a century. Armas is the top wine of the range, drawn from the oldest parcels and given serious oak treatment. It delivers concentration that costs several times as much elsewhere.
The 2016 is dense and dark: black cherry, blueberry and licorice over a mineral core, with mocha and toasted spice from the barrel. Tannins are ripe and the finish is long. Decant it and serve it with lamb, grilled sausages or a slow-cooked stew.
