Cristalino is a modern invention: take an aged tequila, filter the color out of it, and keep the flavor the barrel put in. Avion applies the technique to its Reserva stock, producing a spirit that pours as clear as a blanco but drinks with the depth of something that spent real time in oak.
The nose is soft and sweet, the palate carries vanilla, honey and toasted oak over bright cooked agave, and the finish is unusually smooth. It is a natural for sipping neat and a showpiece in a clear cocktail where the color would otherwise give the game away. Pour it for guests who think they know what tequila looks like.
