This is the rum the Bacardi family reportedly kept for themselves long before it was ever sold commercially, aged eight years and blended for sipping rather than mixing. In a category crowded with cheap bottles and sweetened imitations, an honest aged rum at this price is a genuinely good deal.
The palate is dry and layered, with toffee, dried apricot, vanilla, nutmeg and a hint of oak char, finishing long and warm without heat. Drink it neat or over a large cube the way you would a bourbon. It also makes an excellent aged Daiquiri or rum Old Fashioned if you want to see what good rum does in a stirred drink.
