Product Description
Dark Rye is an unusual piece of blending: Kentucky straight rye and Canadian rye brought together with a measure of California port. It should not work as neatly as it does, and it has become one of the more interesting bottles in the Basil Hayden range for anyone bored of the usual choices.
The port shows immediately, bringing dark berry and dried fruit sweetness over the rye pepper underneath, with a soft, faintly wine-stained finish. Poured neat into a small glass it reads almost like an after-dinner drink. In a Manhattan it does something genuinely different, adding fruit depth where sweet vermouth usually carries the load.
