Belle Glos is the Pinot Noir project of the Wagner family, and Las Alturas is its most recognizable expression, a wine known as much for its wax-dipped bottle as for what is inside. This is Pinot made in a bold, saturated style rather than a delicate one, and it has built a devoted following among drinkers who want power and perfume in the same glass.
In the glass it is deep and glossy, with black cherry, raspberry preserves, baking spice and a note of cola. The texture is plush and the finish long. Pair it with duck, salmon, mushroom risotto or a holiday roast, and pour it just below room temperature.
