Nashville had a whiskey industry long before it had a music one, and Belle Meade is part of that thread being picked back up. Revived by the Nelson family, the bourbon is built on a high-rye recipe, which is the deliberate choice that gives it spice and structure instead of a straight run at sweetness. It has long been the bottle that whiskey people hand to friends who think they already know what bourbon tastes like.

Rye leads with black pepper and dry cinnamon, followed by caramel, cherry and a firm oak backbone, finishing dry rather than sugary. It is excellent neat and even better in a Manhattan or a Boulevardier, where the spice keeps sweet vermouth honest. For drinkers who prefer their bourbon assertive.
