BenRiach sits in Speyside, and The Original Ten is the distillery calling card. What sets it apart is the three-cask approach: bourbon barrels, sherry casks and virgin oak are married together, giving a ten-year-old malt more layers than its age would suggest. It is an approachable entry into single malt without being a simplified one.
On the palate there is orchard fruit and honey, a dusting of cinnamon and toasted oak, with a creamy body and a warming, faintly nutty finish. Drink it neat, or add a few drops of water to open up the fruit. A fine first bottle for someone moving from blends into malt.
