Gran Reserva is the top rung of the Rioja ladder, and very few wines from any region get this much time before release. Beronia holds the wine for years in oak and then in bottle, so what arrives in the glass has already done the hard work of aging that most reds ask a buyer to do at home. A serious wine at a distinctly unserious price.
Mature and layered, it shows dried cherry, tobacco leaf, sweet spice and leather, with silky tannins and a long, savory finish. Pour it with lamb, roast pork, oxtail or a mature cheese. A bottle for a table that plans to linger.
