Twelve years is the number that matters here. Black Dog has been blending Scotch since the late nineteenth century, and the Triple Gold Reserve at twelve years old is the expression where the house style really settles, with malt and grain whiskies given long enough in cask to fuse into something seamless. It is a blend built for smoothness rather than drama, and it does that job with real polish.

The nose gives honey, orchard fruit and light vanilla, the palate adds malt biscuit and a thread of soft oak, and the finish is warm, clean and free of smoke. Pour it over one large cube, or with a small splash of water to open the fruit. A gracious pour for guests and an unfussy everyday Scotch.
