Caramelised sugar, baked apple and warm spice make the case within a single sip. Botran No. 15 is the Reserva Especial in this Guatemalan house, a solera blend drawing on stocks up to fifteen years old and distilled from first press sugarcane honey rather than the molasses most rum leans on. The family has been at it since 1939.
The palate is medium bodied and notably dry for its age, with vanilla, roasted nuts and a faint smokiness on the close. Drink it neat or over one large cube; it also makes an unusually elegant daiquiri if you are feeling generous with the good stuff. For the rum drinker ready to leave mixers behind.
