Broken Shed takes an unusual route to a very familiar destination. Its base spirit comes from whey, a by product of New Zealand dairy farming rather than the grain or potato most vodka relies on, and it is cut with local spring water. The softness on the tongue separates it from a shelf of interchangeable neutral bottles.
The nose is faint and clean, the palate smooth and just off neutral, with a hint of sweetness and a short, warm finish free of harshness. It belongs in a martini stirred cold enough to frost the glass, or a vodka soda with lime. A quietly excellent everyday bottle from the far side of the world.
