Product Description
Five generations of the Brugal family have made rum in the Dominican Republic since 1888, and this bottling carries the founding year for a reason. It is double matured, first in heavily charred American oak and then in first fill European oak casks previously seasoned with sherry, which is where the darker, drier character comes from.
The palate is dry by rum standards, offering toffee, dried fruit, cocoa and a nutty sherry edge, with vanilla and oak spice stretching out the finish. Drink it neat or over one large cube; it also makes a formidable old fashioned. Well suited to whisky drinkers who have always been suspicious of rum.
