Buffalo Trace distills in Frankfort, Kentucky, on a riverbank site that has been producing whiskey since before the Civil War, and this flagship bottling is the reason the distillery's name carries the weight it does. Caramel, brown sugar and toffee lead, with baking spice, dark cherry and a seam of oak underneath, closing long and gently warm. Neat, or over one large cube; it also builds an exceptional Old Fashioned. A benchmark pour for anyone learning what bourbon is supposed to taste like.
