Product Description
Kosher whiskey is a narrow field, and this is the bottle that opened it up properly. Buffalo Trace built a small kosher programme with rabbinical supervision through production, and the rye recipe is the spiciest of the group, using a mash bill weighted toward rye rather than the wheat used in its sibling. It is bottled at a higher strength than the distillery flagship, which gives it noticeably more presence.
Rye leads with black pepper, dill and dry cinnamon, then caramel, dark cherry and a firm oak backbone, closing long and dry. It shines in a Manhattan or a Sazerac where the spice has something to push against, and it holds up neat. A thoughtful gift for a bourbon drinker who keeps a kosher kitchen.
