Peach, orange blossom and a gentle fizz. Moscato d Asti is one of the most immediately likeable wines Italy produces, made in Piedmont from Moscato Bianco and left lightly sparkling and modest in alcohol. It is the bottle that quietly converts people who insist they do not care for wine.
Sweet without ever turning heavy, with fresh stone fruit, honeysuckle and a soft frothy texture that clears quickly from the palate. Serve it thoroughly chilled in a white wine glass. Lovely alongside fruit tarts, panna cotta and almond biscuits, and a cheerful aperitif on a warm afternoon.
