Product Description
Clos Apalta is Chile's most ambitious wine, made in a purpose-built gravity-flow winery carved into a hillside in the Apalta sector of the Colchagua Valley. The blend is led by Carmenere, the grape Chile rediscovered after Bordeaux had all but abandoned it, and every vintage is made in small quantity with hand sorting at each stage.
The 2011 is dense and layered, with black plum, cassis, graphite, sweet tobacco and a fine-grained tannin that has softened considerably with age. Decant it for an hour and serve in large glasses with roast lamb, aged beef or wild game. A bottle to open for an occasion that deserves one.
