Portugal remains one of the last corners of Europe where serious red wine is still genuinely inexpensive, largely because it grows native grapes nobody has learned to ask for by name. Casa Santos Lima built its reputation on exactly that, turning out ripe, structured reds at prices that look like errors.
Expect dark berry fruit, plum and a touch of wild herb, with medium body, firm but polished tannins and a fresh finish. Serve just below room temperature. A natural with grilled lamb, roast pork, chorizo, hard cheeses, or anything cooked over an open fire on a cold night.
