The Catena family spent decades proving that Argentine Malbec could stand alongside the world's serious reds, largely by planting higher up the Andes than anyone thought sensible. Catena Alta is the tier where that work shows, drawn from the family's high-altitude vineyards, and the 2015 now has a decade of bottle age behind it.
Altitude gives concentration without heaviness: dark plum, violet, cocoa and a graphite streak, framed by fine tannins and oak that supports rather than shouts. Decant it, then serve with grilled short ribs, lamb, or aged cheese. A bottle worth opening when the meal deserves attention.
