Lalande-de-Pomerol lies just across a small stream from Pomerol itself, sharing much of the same clay and gravel and a great deal of the same Merlot-driven character, at a fraction of the price its famous neighbor commands.
Wines from here are plush and rounded, with plum, black cherry, truffle and a soft, velvety finish that arrives sooner than in most of Bordeaux. Serve with roast beef, mushroom dishes, or a good burger. One of the smartest ways to drink right-bank Bordeaux without the right-bank invoice.
