Washington State grows Merlot exceptionally well, with warm days and cold nights in the Columbia Valley producing wines riper than Bordeaux and more structured than California. Chateau Ste. Michelle has been demonstrating that for decades, and the 2018 is a good example of the house style.
The wine is smooth and medium to full-bodied, with black cherry, plum, cocoa and a light cedar note from oak aging, finishing soft and long. Serve it with roast pork, burgers, a mushroom dish, or a plate of cheese. Ready to drink now, and priced to open on a weeknight.
