Oakville is the middle of Napa Valley in both geography and reputation, the bench where some of California most expensive Cabernet is grown. Bottles carrying that appellation at an accessible price are worth noticing, and this is one of them: varietally honest Cabernet from a very good address.
The wine shows blackberry and cassis, a dusty cocoa note and the fine, grippy tannin that Oakville fruit tends to deliver. Give it thirty minutes open before pouring. Grilled lamb, a mushroom risotto or a well-marbled steak will all meet it comfortably.
