Altura Maxima is planted higher than almost any vineyard on earth, on a remote site in the Salta province of Argentina where the air is thin and the sun is relentless. Vines under that kind of stress make small, thick-skinned berries, and the wine that follows is correspondingly concentrated and vivid.
This is a dark, intense Malbec: black plum, violet, graphite and a wash of mountain herbs, with firm tannin and a long, cool finish that keeps the ripeness in balance. Decant it well ahead. Drink it with grilled red meat, or cellar it further and be patient.
