Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr. spent years pushing the Bottled-in-Bond Act into law, and the seal he won in 1897 is still the closest thing American whiskey has to a guarantee. Single Barrel honors him properly: one barrel, no vatting, bottled at the bonded strength of 100 proof after a minimum of four years in new charred oak. Each bottle reflects the particular corner of the warehouse it came from, which is the entire appeal.
Expect caramel, tobacco leaf, dark cherry and sweet oak, closing dry and spice-driven over a long finish. Drink it neat first, then add a few drops of water and watch the fruit step forward. For the bourbon drinker who wants provenance printed on the label.
