A bottle shaped like a baseball is not subtle, and it is not trying to be. Cooperstown Distillery works out of the town that gave American baseball its founding myth, and the Doubleday bourbon is its tribute to that history, bottled at 45% alcohol in a spherical decanter that ends up on mantelpieces as often as bar carts. For a fan, it is a gift that reads instantly.

The whiskey is warm and approachable, with caramel, vanilla, sweet corn and light baking spice over a medium oak finish. Pour it neat in a rocks glass during the late innings, or use it as the base of a simple old fashioned with an orange peel. A natural present for the baseball obsessive who also drinks bourbon.
