A twenty-fifth anniversary is the sort of milestone a distillery marks by reaching for its longest-aged stock, and Corralejo did exactly that. This is an extra anejo, which requires a minimum of three years in oak, released in commemorative packaging to mark a quarter century of the brand. Anniversary editions are produced once and then they are finished, which is most of the reason people buy them the moment they see them.
The profile is rich and after-dinner: dark caramel, chocolate, dried fig and sweet oak, with cooked agave underneath and a long, gentle finish. Serve it neat in a wide glass at room temperature, unhurried. A collectable bottle and a strong gift for someone who keeps aged tequila rather than pouring it straight away.
