Blended from some of the oldest whiskies in the Crown Royal inventory, this carries an eighteen year age statement, which is unusual territory for Canadian whisky and rarer still at this scale. The Extra Rare designation is the brand shorthand for its most limited releases, and the extended time in cask does what you would hope, replacing easy sweetness with weight, structure and a genuine oak spine.

The palate runs to vanilla, dark toffee, baked apple and clove, with a creamy texture and a long, dry finish that takes its time. Drink it neat in a tulip glass, or with a single drop of water, and give it room. A convincing bottle for a whisky drinker who has written Canadian whisky off too early.
