Kentucky likes to name its bourbon after its landmarks, and Cumberland Falls is one of the finest the state has, a wide curtain of water in the southern hills. The whiskey is a Kentucky straight bourbon, which is a legally protected term and a real guarantee: new charred oak, no additives, and time in the barrel before it goes anywhere near a bottle. It is priced as a workhorse and behaves like one.
The profile is familiar in the best sense, with caramel, vanilla, sweet corn and a little cinnamon, finishing medium and clean. This is a mixing bourbon before anything else, dependable in an old fashioned, a whiskey sour or a highball with ginger ale, and perfectly agreeable neat.
