Cutty Sark was created in 1923 for a market that wanted Scotch lighter and cleaner than the smoky style of the day, and it has stayed on that brief ever since. The pale colour was deliberate, the blend was built for mixing, and generations of bartenders have kept it on the rail for exactly that reason. Few blended Scotches are this useful at this price.
It is soft and grassy, with vanilla, light citrus and a gentle cereal note over a clean finish and very little peat. Pour it with soda and ice, use it in a whisky sour, or drink it neat if you like your Scotch understated. A dependable mixing Scotch and an easy introduction to the category.
