Named for the year Don Julio Gonzalez began distilling, 1942 has become the bottle people reach for when an occasion needs to be recognized. The large format is rare, unmistakable on a bar, and exactly the right choice when the guest list runs long.
The tequila itself is famously soft: warm oak and vanilla over roasted agave, with caramel, toasted almond and a hint of tropical fruit, finishing long and gently sweet. Serve it neat at room temperature in a copita and take your time. Ice is unnecessary and lime would be a waste.
