Some bottles earn their reputation on the shelf before anyone tastes them, and the tall, tapered 1942 decanter is one of them. The liquid justifies the presentation: an anejo aged well past the legal minimum in American white oak.
It drinks with remarkable softness. Roasted agave and warm vanilla lead, followed by caramel, toasted almond and a touch of baking spice, finishing long and gently sweet without any heat. Neat, at room temperature, in a small glass is the correct approach. As a gift, few tequilas make the point so quickly.
