Clear in the glass, aged in the barrel. This is the bottling Don Julio released for its seventieth anniversary, an anejo that spends a year and a half in American white oak and is then filtered back to transparency. It was among the first tequilas to do this, and it remains the reference point for the style.
Expect vanilla and gentle caramel over a core of cooked agave, with the pepper of a young tequila sanded smooth. Pour it neat, chilled or over one big cube, or build a margarita that tastes far more expensive than the shortcut suggests. For drinkers who want oak without weight.
