Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr. was one of the architects of modern bourbon, pushing for the Bottled-in-Bond Act and building the Frankfort distillery that became Buffalo Trace. The whiskey that carries his name is made as a tribute to that era, matured in century-old brick warehouses and released in quantities that rarely sit on a shelf for long.
It drinks rich and classically built: caramel, toasted grain, orange peel and baking spice, with a dry oak backbone and a long finish. Neat, or with a few drops of water, is the way to meet it, though it makes an exceptional old fashioned if you are feeling generous.
