Anejo is where tequila stops arguing with the barrel and starts cooperating with it. El Berrinche gives its agave spirit a long rest in oak, softening the raw green edges of the plant into something rounder and warmer. For a bottle at this end of the shelf, it offers a lot of the aged-tequila experience without the collector price.
Look for cooked agave under caramel, vanilla and toasted oak, with a touch of dried fruit and a warm, gently sweet finish. Sip it neat in a copita after dinner, or use it where you would reach for a bourbon in an old fashioned. Suited to slow drinking rather than a pitcher of margaritas.
