Eighteen years is a long time to leave bourbon in a Kentucky rickhouse, where summer heat drives the whiskey deep into the wood and takes a heavy toll in evaporation. What survives is drawn from a single barrel, so no two bottlings are quite alike. Releases at this age are limited and tend to be spoken for quickly.
The wood is unmistakable but never bitter: dark caramel, leather, dried cherry, tobacco and a dusting of baking spice over a long, dry finish. Drink it neat, in a good glass, with nothing but time. A bottle for a milestone, or for a shelf that deserves an anchor.
