Espolon built its name on loud label art and straightforward quality, and the anejo is where the range turns serious. After time in American oak the tequila moves into heavily charred barrels that previously held bourbon, and that finishing step is what gives the bottle its distinctive sweet, smoky depth. One of the better-value aged tequilas on any shelf.
Butterscotch, vanilla and charred oak over roasted agave, with a hint of cinnamon and a long, warming finish. Best neat in a small glass or over a single large cube; it also makes an excellent tequila old fashioned. For bourbon drinkers and anejo regulars alike.
