Zweigelt is Austria's most planted red grape, created in 1922 and beloved ever since for producing wines that are dark, juicy and unfailingly easy to drink. Esterhazy makes a textbook version from its Burgenland vineyards.
Sour cherry and dark berry lead, with a peppery lift and soft tannins that keep everything light on its feet. Chill it for twenty minutes and it works as well with charcuterie and grilled vegetables as it does with roast chicken or a good cheeseburger. An unfussy red for people who like their reds refreshing.
