Faustino has been making wine in Rioja since the nineteenth century, which gives the house a long view on what a good red ought to cost. This Cabernet Sauvignon is Spanish restraint applied to a French grape.
It comes across medium-bodied and savory, with blackcurrant and dark cherry, a little cedar and dried herb, and tannins that stay smooth through a clean finish. Serve it at cool room temperature with lamb, chorizo, manchego, or grilled vegetables and very good bread.
