Barbaresco is Nebbiolo grown on the eastern hills of the Langhe, where the wines come out a little more perfumed and a little less austere than Barolo. Fontanabianca works a small estate in the middle of it.
The wine smells of rose petal, tar, dried cherry and truffle, and tastes firm and savory, with the high acidity and fine drying tannins Nebbiolo is known for.
