Product Description
Freixenet has been making sparkling wine in Catalonia since the early 1900s and remains the name most people reach for when Champagne is not on the cards. Cava is produced by the same method, with the second fermentation happening inside the bottle and the wine resting on its lees before disgorging. The difference is the grapes, the climate and, happily, the price.
Dry and lively, with green apple, citrus peel and a faint toasty note from lees ageing, finishing clean and brisk. Serve it properly cold. It is excellent with salty things such as cured ham, almonds and olives, and it makes a considerably better mimosa base than most people realise.
