Product Description
Angelo Gaja spent years negotiating for the Bolgheri land that became Ca Marcanda, and the name itself comes from the local phrase for endless haggling. The estate on the Tuscan coast gave Piedmont's most famous producer a foothold in Bordeaux varieties, and the wines were taken seriously from the first release. A 2011 has had considerable time to settle into itself.
Expect dark fruit softened by age, with cedar, tobacco and a savoury mineral undertone, and tannins that have had more than a decade to smooth out. Decant it carefully in case of sediment and give it an hour. Serve it with roast lamb, game or aged cheese, and treat the evening as the occasion it is.
