Cabernet Sauvignon is the most planted red grape in California, and Gallo produces more of it than almost anyone. This is the everyday bottling: ripe fruit, soft tannins and no attempt at grandeur, sold at a price that makes it a reasonable default rather than a considered purchase. For a red that simply needs to be good enough, it is.
Black cherry and blackcurrant with a touch of oak spice and a smooth, easy finish. Serve it slightly below room temperature. It is a comfortable match for burgers, pizza, grilled sausage and roast vegetables, and it needs no decanting or waiting to show what it has.
