Gallo has been making wine in California since 1933, when two brothers started the operation in Modesto with borrowed money and a library book for instruction. The Cabernet Sauvignon in the magnum is the modern descendant of that idea: honest, consistent varietal wine at a price built for regular drinking. It is a familiar bottle for very good reasons.
Blackcurrant and dark cherry with a hint of vanilla and soft, approachable tannins that need no time to unwind. Serve it a little below room temperature. It is at home with burgers, grilled steak, tomato based pasta and pizza, and the magnum covers a table of four without a second trip to the rack.
