Product Description
Plum wine is one of the most comfortable drinks in the Japanese repertoire, steeped from fruit rather than fermented from grapes and traditionally kept in the house for guests. Gekkeikan, brewing since 1637, makes a version that explains why the style has travelled so well: sweet, aromatic and gentle enough to pour before or after a meal.
The flavor is ripe plum and apricot with a candied, almost marzipan edge, sweet on the palate but softened by a mild tartness that keeps it from cloying. Serve it chilled in a small glass, over ice with a twist of lemon, or warmed slightly in cold weather. Excellent with grilled eel, salty snacks and vanilla ice cream.
